Balance and stability, the mix to succeed

Do you work to live or do you live to work? This question sticks in my mind very often and I dare to say that the answer is none, because there’s no way one should be the purpose of the other. If so, your life would be unbalanced.   Researching for the definition of balance and I found one that I loved, for all of us, dance lovers.   Balance: “Movement that is done by tilting the body forward or backward, without moving the feet.” Royal Spanish Academy (RAE)

Your movement

Imagine what would happen if you danced only by taking steps forward and back. Our dances would become monotonous and boring until you don’t want to do it anymore… Also if you dedicate most of your time to going forward you will be unbalanced.   Start by finding your priorities in life, the most typical tend to be work and family, but you can add others such as: emotional and physical health, environmental care, optimal and powerful “social life,” and how about also adding a little dance? Of course you have to!   What matters is to take the time to sit down and review how many hours a week you dedicate to each of those areas, be realistic and I promise that your life will be way easier, and you will enjoy it 100%. You will live in peace and happiness, and with more emotional intelligence.

Your feet

The second thing we have to keep in mind when talking about balance in life is to have a support center, on which the weight falls. Is there a dance without a support point? The answer is “No,”. As dancers, the greatest fear we face is to fall or step on our partner; no one wants to go through that embarrassing moment. That’s why we have to be aware of where to transfer our weight.   The center of your life has to be yourself; anything you do or stop doing will cause an effect on you, and it is true that your support point can be other people, but remember that is not always advisable to rely on others; be the one living your own life, take control of your actions, don’t let anyone influence your decisions and live your best life now.

Understanding emotions and feelings

How to have emotional intelligence?

We can’t talk about balance without talking about the two elements that reign human beings: emotions and feelings. For starters, it is important to make clear that emotions are the introduction to feelings. Did you know that they only remain in your body for 90 seconds? This has been demonstrated by several psychologists and researchers. So why when you are sad it feels that it lasts forever? Because it is up to you. At this point it is worth clarifying 2 things:
  • Emotion is an autonomous reaction of your body and therefore you can not act on it, it is designed so that you realize the reaction that generates in you a certain stimulus or trigger
  • You can control your feelings, determining how long they will last, and how deep to experience them. You have the power to decide.
With this said you already understand the key to balance your life: by having emotional intelligence and acting consciously. A necessary awareness in life and even in dance.   Also read: How dancing helps us with our mental health?   If you have ever danced tango you might notice that it is impossible to dance it without a partner, it is designed to be for two, so you should also know that your emotional state might affect your dance partner, either in a positive or negative way, because dancing is more than steps! It is about understanding each other as a team, by the genuine connection, feelings, fluidity and stability of each one of you two.
