Then you just let yourself go, the rhythm takes over you, you begin to join the dancers, and that’s it, you’re already part of this great show.

This is the feeling that many people experience when they are surprised by a Flash Mob. To find out what a Flash Mob is, the message that this type of artistic representation wants to convey and how their influence has been very decisive over time stay with us in today’s blog.

What is a Flash Mob?

It is a compound word of English, where flash means “lightning” and the mob represents a “crowd”, which together, translates as a lightning crowd. It is a massive call that consists of bringing together a group of people to carry out a performance; on most of the occasions, it involves choreography and dancing, but it can also be customized with singing, musicians and circus performers.

It is also a creative way to highlight a message during the appearance of a group of people in a public place. It is used for multiple reasons, from marketing strategies, launching a new company, culminating a campaign, to supporting political or social events, surprising your loved ones or proposing marriage.

What message do flash mobs seek to convey?

Each Flashmob is unique and aims to convey different messages: some of them have more creative and entertaining purposes, and some others might intend to impact and mark a moment in their lives. Let’s see examples of other several goals they might have:

In Marketing, it is used to create a viral reaction or attract people’s attention, all to cause awareness and interest in a brand. They want to put themselves out there.

Many political meetings or protests today organize Flash Mobs; a very creative way of protest to gain support in public opinion and coverage by social media and press.

They are also used as a way to surprise your loved ones, from marriage proposals, birthdays, graduations and many other celebrations.

One memorable Flash Mob that remains in history was the one that took place in Spain, at “La Paz hospital” in Madrid, winning the 2013 Pink glove dance contest. For making it happen, the organizers mobilized workers, friends, and sympathizers to interpret a theme song using pink balloons and gloves to raise awareness of breast cancer. Their more than thirteen million views led them to win the prize for the European version of the event launched by the Hospital Medline in the United States. These funds financed research for this type of cancer.
