Anyone can dance like a star

Dancing with the Stars” is a famous American tv show in which professional dancers and celebrities get paired together to learn complex choreographies and compete for a prize. Since its beginning in 2005 it has become one of the favorite reality shows among the masses. Its origin was in England; it was inspired on a British series called known as Strictly, which has been aired on BBC One since 2004, a year before the U.S. version made its dancing debut. Something that viewers have very clear is that they can get easily hooked by whether those incredible dances or by the amazing costumes they wear. For those who have watched the show and sometimes can not get enough of it, we have some interesting facts to tell you, that might leave your mouth open…

 

  • Over the years, some part takers on “Dancing with the Stars” went on dates with their dance partners, and some, even got married. Some examples of this are Karina Smirnoff and Mario Lopez, they were dance partners in season three, and later got engaged; also Chmerkovsky is now engaged with his fellow dancer Peta Murgatroyd and the Shark Tank star, Robert Herjavec married his dance partner Kym Johnson.
  • The show almost had a president, since Deena Katz, the show’s casting director, had a dream of seeing Bill Clinton on the dance floor. When Clinton was asked about it on “The Rachel Ray Show“, he only laughed and said he did not have time for training. Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama were also invited to the show, but they both declined.
  • Valentin Chmerkovskiy, the Ukrainian-American professional dancer, had the most perfect scores from season 17 to 23, winning two times and becoming an icon of the World Latin dance champion.
  • Derek Hough, an American professional Latin and ballroom dancer, choreographer, actor, and singer got an Emmy for one of his performances with a quickstep.
  • Donny Osmond, the American singer was the oldest celebrity to win the top prize on 2009. He was turning 52 by that time.
  • Kate Gosselin gave a lot to talk about during her appearance on 2010, she did not get along with her fellow Tony Dovolani, actually, her dance partner said he needed therapy after pairing with her, since she was such a diva with a very rude attitude.
  • Several football players have participated on the show, proving that they were not as stiff as we were thinking.
  • Winning or losing, celebrities have much to gain just by showing up on the show. More than one contestant has received $125.000 as their base salary for appearing on the show according to People magazine. The longer they last in the show, the more money they get. The winner receives up to $360,000.
  • Bindi Irwin, the winner of 2015 had to go to court to prove that her father was dead, in order to get both her contract settled and her estimated $360,000 paycheck from the show, because she was just 17 years old when she competed so she was considered a minor.
  • Kenny Mayne, the journalist of ESPN received the title of the show’s worst dancer on the 200th episode, in which the hosts presented the awards of Dancing with the stars.
  • Many part takers got injured while participating on the show; from broken tendons to rib injuries, the contestants have proven that dancing can be dangerous sometimes. Some of the most unforgettable injuries that happened were Misty May-Treanor’s torn Achilles tendon, Steve-O’s back injury, and Tom DeLay’s foot fracture.   • The show brought back the Carlton dance, a dance that got popularized in the tv show “The fresh prince of Bel-Air”, in which the character Carlton cheerfully swings his arms and hips.

Without a doubt, this kind of shows not only entertain us but also make us want to join the dance floor, with those incredible moves. We can tell dancing is not easy, however, this show is a prove that it does not matter what we do, with practice, consistency and passion anyone can become a great dancer.
