College rarely prepares you for the practical life that will help you keep your things together well into adulthood. I want to dive into the most significant advice that college doesn’t teach you in today’s blog. I’ll provide you with resources and tools to help you throughout your journey. These lessons for life will be your ultimate guide for living the way you want and deserve.
For two reasons, most financial experts on TV try to make things sound really confusing. To make them look more intelligent than you, and two, to make you feel you need their advice, but you don’t. It’s really not that complicated. First things first, you need to save more than you spend. I know this sounds absurdly simple, but we need to cut it down to the basics. You need to actually save more money than you are spending every month. Secondly, never make purchases on a credit card if you don’t have the cash. The worst thing you can have is debt because that can lead to an unsustainable lifestyle. Also, very important, make sure you save up an emergency fund that can protect you from inevitable things that life might throw at you. Last but not least, invest in yourself and your skills; find books, courses, and resources that will give you a legitimate return on your investment.

Having a job used to be the goal years ago; that’s not the dream anymore. Now we understand that if we are going to work 40 plus hours a week, we better actually enjoy it. It’s more important to have a flexible job to make room for the things that matter most in life. If you are in a creative field, your resume doesn’t matter; your work does. Nobody cares about your GPA. Clients and employers care about one thing above all: that you can reliably deliver quality work. If you are in a more technical field, just ask yourself, “how can I stand out?”. Doing this takes a lot of courage because it requires you to push through a world of fear and self-doubt when you follow an unconventional path.

We often put so much of ourselves into work that we forget to live. That’s just a way to burn yourself out. It brings you anxiety. You need to learn to balance your mental health with your ambitions. It’s challenging to come back from burnout and even harder to reverse the effects of anxiety. Learn how to improve yourself, feel passionate about something, and find a vision of where you need to move forward; that’s vital for living a meaningful life. Above all, remember that you are not perfect; you will fail and make mistakes, but when you have a plan for when you do inevitably fail, you’ll be more likely to get back on track.

A lot of people have trouble adapting and building healthy habits. These are the foundation of living a meaningful life. We result from all the small decisions and behaviors that we act on every day. If you learn to control your environment, you can manage your habits. An example of this is keeping junk food and alcohol out of your house. That way, you don’t feel tempted to have it. Also, get clear on your purpose. What’s the motivation behind your action? What are you working towards?
An excellent tip I can give you is to track your habits. Remember that you are not looking to make radical changes overnight. Use the two-day rule; when building a new habit, make a promise to yourself that you won’t skip two days in a row. This is one of the most valuable lessons for life that I can give you.
When it comes to starting a fitness life, it can be a genuinely intimidating experience. But whether you are just getting started at the gym or picking up any other fitness habit, you need to know some things to start with the right foot. You have nothing to be afraid of; everyone has to get started somewhere. Go low, slow, and steady. Start with a routine that feels easy, and from there, you will build momentum. The idea is to enjoy your workout. If you feel that you hate it, you must be doing something wrong. A great way to experiment with that is by watching some of the workouts on StepFlix YouTube channel. For example this Bodyweight workout is perfect for those who want to condition their bodies while getting the best results.
Fitness is one of those domino habits that has a way of impacting every other area of your life. So if you are trying to make a big change this year, I recommend you to start with it. Apply all these lessons for life, and you’ll thank me later.
